Successful matings are most often done 2 days after ovulation, so pinpointing the time of ovulation is extremely important in determining when to mate. Ovulation occurs approximately 12-24 hours after the bitch's Luteinizing Hormone (LH) reaches a maximum peak level. This short period of increase in LH is called hormonal surge. The simple K9Ovi-Check dip-stick test can be used to determine LH levels in blood serum. Comparison testing should be done daily once cytology and/or mating behavior indicates that LH is starting to rise. After determination of the LH surge using K9 Ovi-Check, EndocrineTech K9 Proges-Check test may be used to confirm ovulation and the accompanying rise in progesterone level.
